Ruminating Thoughts

One thought

looping around

like a locomotive

going too fast

leaning over the side

sparks flying

as it runs.

All other thoughts

drowned by the noise

of the runaway train.

I stand in front of it,

both palms out,

pleading for it to stop.

But it chases me

off the track.

I’m tired of them.

It's exhausting

listening to the steel

screech round and round.

Try these tools:

Journal.

Dumping these thoughts

can relieve the mind.

Reminding yourself,

I've written these down, Brain.

You no longer

must hold them for me.

But the rumination train

keeps chugging along.

Meditate.

Imagine sitting by a stream.

Pluck each racing thought

and place them on a leaf.

Watch the thought twirl

until it gently floats down.

But the rumination train

keeps wailing its whistle.

Think Something Else.

Two thoughts trains

can't run on the same track.

So force yourself to think,

think anything.

But the rumination train

keeps coming around.

It's hopeless.

Think Differently.

Maybe you can't derail the rumination train...

But even a moment of peace

is golden.

So count each moment

as a blessing.

They'll expand

into minutes,

hours,

days.

But you have to

actively keep trying.
